Book Reviews

What an investment this fabulous book has proved to be. From the magical monochrome of dew on a spider's web, making it look like a starry constellation, through to some very tender moments between mother and baby, it is being read avidly here!

My copy of WildArt Photographer of the Year arrived a few days ago. The book is of very high quality and full of inspiring imagery. Photographers wanting to find inspiration and improve their muscle memory would benefit greatly by having this book in their collection. Thumbing through its pages is sure to inspire you to try new ideas with your favourite photogenic subjects around home and beyond.

I feel we face two major challenges in nature photography. The first is to make impactful images that make people sit up and take note of the plight and beauty of wildlife and this I feel really requires the integration of wildlife and fine art photography, so expressing emotions and nature. The second is to embrace the larger group of photographers into a community and move away from the elitism that was starting to dominate wildlife photography. This outstanding book is a culmination of Rob Read’s huge energy to achieve both of these in the first year through “WildArt Photographer of the Year”. The themes, the photos, and the sheer beauty are inspirational and changing the way I take photos. Indeed, I loved it so much I bought extra copies for friends.

As a photographer, I highly recommend this book. The subjects and themes shown in the pictures are incredibly varied, and the many different photography styles and techniques all contribute to the inspiring aspect of this publication.

I was fortunate enough to have been awarded GOLD in the abstracts category of the competition, so I opened my copy of the first ever WildArt Photographer of the Year with a degree of trepidation as I wanted the book to do my work justice. I was not disappointed!

The words in the foreword, written by Robert Irwin, are as beautiful as the images contained within the book. He is a passionate wildlife photographer and conservationist, who believes that “photography is one of the most powerful forces for change”; I completely agree, which is why I believe that competitions, which enable us to share beautiful images of the natural world, are so important.

The images in this collection of photographs are powerful and evocative, showing originality and passion for the subjects. It is apparent that Rob (the competition founder) has put a lot of work into sourcing a first-class printing company that can do justice to the quality and colour of the original images.

This collection provides a perfect escape into the natural world. A good photograph can be viewed many times as there is always more to be seen and enjoyed, so my copy will be well thumbed!
